Pulling tires - ready for an expedition!

So, why are Trine and I pulling tires? Are we going on an expedition together?

...Not really. Actually, it is this supah cool friend of mine, who is going to walk across Grønland in May 2011.  She came and asked me if I wanted to be her workout-buddy, since none of her friends were eager to drag a tire around the neighborhood. OF COURSE she could count me in!

Here she is, the expedition-girl!

The reason why pulling tires is part of the training? Because she has to pull a sled of 143 lbs, and that requires a bit of strenght in those thiiiighs.
When I told Trine about it, she wanted to join us too, so we are now starting to grow a team. Team Tires!

Ronny got instant ideas on how to fix the mechanisms in the tires, and after trying to make a hole in his own hand, he made two seriously neat tires with ropes for us to pull. Thank you so much for helping us, they worked out perfectly!

When the expeditioner and I first tried it out, the first 65 ft was like "hey, this is so easy. We really have to put on some wight to those tires!". But then the hills got steep. And gawwd daiiiim, our thighs and butts started to burn! Working out this way was way cooler than I first thought, so much fun!

Yeah, this is REAL training!

Trine and I went up in the mountains at Ljøsheim to try it out. This was the same day Birken was held, and every single car that was passing us contained smiling faces (^.^) The big bike race was on, and amongst thousands of riders that had passed that day, two weird girls were dragging to tires along.

I really enjoy a good competition, and though we were tired, we just had to push through one more hill. And one more, and one more... After a while, we were getting really thirsty, our legs were burning and it started raining too. Gah!

Suddenly, a car with to guys drove by, and the men were yelling supportively to us with thumbs up. The guys were a sponsor team for Birken, and they stopped in front of us, shouting something. Trine and I were like ....whaaaat?, because the tires made so much noise we couldn't hear a single word that was spoken.

When we approached the car, the guys came out with two Birken-beverages, and gave it to us because they just loooved that we actually did this crazy stuff. They praised us with way-to-go's, before the went off.

You think we felt like the coolest girls ever? Even drinking this blue synthetic smurf-drink felt like the best ever, because of those two merrymakers (^_^) What a day!

AWESOME!
